abandon, alone, beside, close, God, Lord, suffer

Suffering

For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5; NLT).

I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me (Psalm 16:8; NLT).

In all their suffering he also suffered (Isaiah 63:9; NLT).

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me (Psalm 23:4; NLT).

Lord,
When we suffer,
You don’t abandon us,
However far from you
We feel.

Rather,
You suffer too,
Beside us –
So we’re never alone,
No matter what we face.

Acceptance

Into your hands I commit my spirit (Psalm 31:5; NIV).

Father,
Contemplation is a time
For self-acceptance.

So I relax my body,
Accepting my aches and pains.

I relax my mind,
Accepting my worries and fears.

I relax my heart,
Accepting my anger and hurt.

Then, I relax my soul,
Entrusting it into your hands,
And accepting that you love me
Just as I am.

United

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

And pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion (Ephesians 6:18; NLT).

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’ s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NLT).

Lord,
Nothing is more important
Than being united with you.

Please help me to begin each day
With contemplation,

Then to practice your presence
Constantly,

Praying in the Spirit
At all times,

And thanking you always
For all things.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

God speaks

For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognise it (Job 33:14; NLT).

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known (Psalm 19:1-2; NLT).

…and after the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; NKJV).

“Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts”  (Hebrews 4:7; NLT).

Lord,
You speak again and again,
In many different ways:
Through the Bible,
Prayer,
The natural world,
Contemplation,
Other people;
Yet we often fail to hear.

Please help us to discern
Your still, small voice,
Not hardening our hearts,
But listening carefully
To everything you say.
