Heaven

“Be still, and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:10; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain (Revelation 21:4; NLT).

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

The Lord is peace (Judges 6:24; NIV).

I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God (Isaiah 61:10; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Lord,
Is contemplation
A foretaste of heaven?

No sound,
Or movement.

No thought,
Or need.

No sorrow,
Or pain.

No time,
Or place.

Just light,
And peace.

Deep joy,
And love –

The infinite bliss
Of unity with you.

Healing

Come close to God, and God will come close to you (James 4:8; NLT).

“I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the LORD (Jeremiah 30:17; NLT).

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain (Revelation 21:4; NLT).

I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 11:9; NIV).

He restores my soul (Psalm 2:3; NKJV).

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10; NLT).

Lord,
Slowly, slowly,
As my relationship
With you grows closer,
You heal my wounds,
And give me back my health
.

Slowly, slowly,
You wipe away the tears that flow
From how I was brought up –
So many years of physical
And mental pain.

And slowly, slowly,
You restore my heart
And soul,
So I can live
To the full.

Suffering

“Is any suffering like my suffering that was inflicted on me?” (Lamentations 1:12; NIV).

“Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us” (Luke 11:4; NIV).

“But I say, love your enemies!” (Matthew 5:44; NLT).

“Pray for those who hurt you” (Luke 6:28; NLT).

Lord,
Please help and heal
Everyone,
Everywhere,
Who suffers
At the hands of others,
In body or mind,
In heart, or soul.

And please help and heal
Everyone,
Everywhere,
Who inflicts suffering
On others,
In body or mind,
In heart, or soul.

Through Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Justice

They defiled themselves by their evil deeds (Psalm 106:39; NLT).

My experience shows that those who plant trouble and cultivate evil will harvest the same (Job 4:8; NLT).

“They have planted the wind and will harvest the whirlwind” (Hosea 8:7; NLT).

Lord,
Help us to understand that
When we defile another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We defile ourselves as well.

When we degrade another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We degrade ourselves as well.

When we damage another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We damage ourselves as well.

And when we destroy another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We destroy ourselves as well.

Thoughts, words and deeds

For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts (Mark 7:21; NLT).

I am determined not to sin in what I say (Psalm 17:3; NLT).

They defiled themselves by their evil deeds (Psalm 106:39; NLT).

Lord,
I’m determined
Not to indulge
In unkind thoughts today.

Please help me
To think the best of everyone
Instead.

Lord,
I’m determined
Not to indulge
In angry words today.

Please help me
To speak with gentleness
Instead.

Lord,
I’m determined
Not to indulge
In heartless deeds today.

Please help me
To offer love to everyone
Instead.

For your Son’s sake,
Amen.

Tolerance

“ ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’ ” (Mark 12:31; NLT).

“Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us”  (Luke 11:4; NIV).

“But I say, love your enemies!” (Matthew 5:44; NLT).

“Pray for those who hurt you” (Luke 6:28; NLT).

Lord,
When we can’t love those
Whose faith and ways
Are different from our own,
Please help us, at least,
To tolerate them.

And when we can’t even
Tolerate them,
Help us, at least,
To pray for them.

And when we can’t even
Pray for them,
Help us to remember
That we are the ones at fault –
Not them.
