Sin

Sin

“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed (John 20:28; NLT).

Do not stay silent. Do not abandon me now, O Lord (Psalm 35:22; NLT).

…your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear (Isaiah 59:2; NIV).

My Lord and my God,
Do not stay silent;
Don’t abandon me now.

Forgive the sins
Dividing me
From you,
And let me hear
Your voice again,
I pray.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Contemplation

Contemplation

Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you (Proverbs 4:25; NLT).

For God alone my soul waits in silence (Psalm 62:1; NIV).

Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind’ ” (Matthew 22:37; NLT).

Lord,
I want to keep my mind
Fixed on you alone;
So when it drifts away,
Please help me
To bring it gently back.

Lord,
I want to keep my heart
Fixed on you alone;
So when it drifts away
Please help me
To bring it gently back.

Lord,
I want to keep my soul
Fixed on you alone;
So when it drifts away
Please help me
To bring it gently back.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Silence

Silence

Stand in silence in the presence of the Sovereign LORD (Zephaniah 1:7; NLT).

Be silent before the LORD, all humanity (Zechariah 2:13; NLT).

O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God (Psalm 83:1; NIV).

He let you hear his voice from heaven so he could instruct you (Deuteronomy 4:36; NLT).

Lord,
Here I am,
At last.

I’m listening -
Please speak to me
In the silence.

Let me
Hear your voice again,
And try to do your will.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Writing

“Here I am” (1 Samuel:3:4; NIV).

“O Lord, please leave me – I’m too much of a sinner to be around you” (Luke 5:8; NLT).

“Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you” (Luke 7:6-7; NLT).

“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:9; NIV).

…and after the fire, a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; KJV).

Lord,
Here I am, in contemplation,
Overwhelmed by your presence,
And afraid.

Part of me wants to say:
“Lord, leave me! I’m a sinner,
And I don’t deserve to be near you.”

But a braver part of me says:
“Speak, Lord,
For your servant is listening.”

Then I write down
What you teach me,
As best I can.

Toxic

Toxic

Their tongues sting like a snake (Psalm 140:3; NLT).

Like lions they open their jaws against me, roaring and tearing into their prey (Psalm 22:13; NLT).

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my saviour; my God is my rock in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety (Psalm 18:2; NLT).

It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built (Luke 6:48; NLT).

Lord,
Please help me to recognise
Toxic people -

The selfish ones
Who drain me,
Giving nothing in return;

The angry ones
Who make me anxious
And afraid.

Help me to stand firm with you,
So I can protect my boundaries,
And stay away from toxic relationships.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A journey

A journey

He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him (Daniel 2:22; NIV).

He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light (Job 12:22; NIV).

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5; NIV).

Lord,
In silent prayer,
You take my hand,
And lead me on a journey
Into the darkness
Of my soul,
And the radiance
Of yours.

Darkness

Darkness

To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you (Psalm 139:12; NLT).

O LORD my God, how great you are! (Psalm 104;1; NLT).

“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed (John 20:28; NLT).

Father,
Today, for the very first time,
I found you in darkness.

There was neither light,
Nor any need of light -
For you were present
In the darkness,
And I was overjoyed
To meet you there.

How great you are,
My Lord and my God!
