Pray continually

Pray continually

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests
(Ephesians:18; NIV).

Father,
Please help me
To lift up my heart to you
All day long,
Practicing your presence,
Following your Son,
And praying continually
In the Spirit.

I ask this in Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Peace

Peace

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1; NIV).

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7; NIV).

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12.18; NIV).

Father,
It’s good to be
At peace with you.

Please help me
To be at peace
With others,
And even with myself,
As well.

In Jesus name,
Amen.

Only human

Only human

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law (Romans 13:8; NIV).

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12; NIV).

The King will reply, ‘Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:40; NIV).

He will reply, ‘Truly, I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me’ (Matthew 25:45; NIV).

Father,
We are only human.

We are fragile and vulnerable,
Easily damaged
In body, mind and soul.

     Lord, heal us.

Father,
We are only human.

We damage others, too,
By accident,
By not caring,
And even by design.

     Lord, forgive us.

Father,
We are only human.

Help us to start our lives afresh
By offering love
To everyone we meet,
And serving Christ in them.

     Lord, restore us.

We ask this in His precious name,
Amen.

Prayer

Prayer

I keep the LORD always before me (Psalm 16:8; NIV).

And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? (Luke 18:7).

On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night (Psalm 63:6; N|V).

…when I awake, I am still with you (Psalm 139:18; NIV).

Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice (Psalm 55:17).

…surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

Father,
Thank you for being with me all the time,
And for hearing my prayers -
Though they are often so sleepy,
Tangled and repetitive.

Please help me
To reach out to you ceaselessly,
Day and night.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Good Friday

Good Friday

This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 26:28; NIV).

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors (Matthew 6:12; NRSV).

Lord,
Today we remember
How you died
So our sins can be forgiven.

Please forgive us now,
As we forgive
Those who have sinned
Against us.

We ask this for your love’s sake,
Amen.

Faith

Faith

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1; NIV).

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”
(Matthew 17:20; NIV).

For we live by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7; NIV).

The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love (Galatians 5:6; NIV).

Father,
Please help me to go forward in faith,
Knowing that you want me to serve you,
Confident that my task will emerge
At the right time,
And trusting that you will equip me
To fulfil it.

In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen.

Service

Hi, I’m sorry that you received an early, unedited version of this blog yesterday – I pressed the “publish” button by mistake, and off it went! I tried to cancel it, but emails can’t be recalled…

Service

So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth (Revelation 3:16; NIV).

Father,
Please show me how I can serve you.

Don’t spit me out of your mouth
For being neither hot nor cold -
A mediocre, lukewarm Christian,
Who fails you constantly.

Please show me
How you want me to serve you -
Then help me to obey.

I ask this in your dear Son’s name,
Amen.
